A Way to Lighten Your Life
Sunday, September 9th, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Light on the Hill Retreat Center
Van Etten, New York
Leader: Mara Alper
Cost: $85 (includes lunch)
In our culture, we often hear the phrase, “Forgive and forget.” But it isn’t about forgetting. It is about regaining the energy tied up in anger and hurt, and using it for far better purposes.
Forgiveness is a choice that allows us to heal on our own, without the offender apologizing or even acknowledging their part. We can also choose to forgive ourselves; sometimes this is even harder than forgiving another. We forgive not because we ought to, but because it will help us feel better.
During this workshop, you will experience a forgiveness process through a blend of discussion, meditation, journaling, and gentle movement to guide you toward a softened heart and healing. Mara’s documentary Forgiveness will be screened. This thought-provoking workshop is for anyone who has been hurt, but has not yet healed.
MARA ALPER is a teacher, media artist and writer. Her documentaries Stories No One Wants To Hear (1993) and Forgiveness (2006) have reached world-wide audiences about healing past pain. She inadvertently became an expert in forgiveness because of her life circumstances and her unwillingness to let the past deflate her life energy any longer. Mara is an Associate Professor at Ithaca College, where she teaches media arts and leads workshops on forgiveness.
