Participants may choose a traditional retreat led by Mimi, in which they leave their daily distractions behind and claim the time and space to be still, mindful, and centered. What do you distractions tell you and what can you learn from them. Or, participants may choose a yoga retreat led by Mary. They will enjoy more than ten hours ranging from restorative to gentle to active; meditation and pranayama. All yoga props are provided.

Arrival: Friday, October 25 between 4:00-6:00 p.m.

Departure: Sunday, October 27 at noon.

Please bring:  Personal items, slippers, boots, and appropriate outdoor gear for walking.

Directions from Rochester and points Northwest: Take NY Thruway east to Exit 42 Geneva. Take Rt. 14 south. (Rt. 14 makes a few turns in Geneva.) Just past Watkins Glen, turn left on Rt. 224. Continue on 224 for 18.1 miles to Blake Hill Road. You will pass the turn off to Rt. 223 and then see a billboard on your right just before Blake Hill. Turn left on to Blake Hill Road.

 

Friday Evening

Your retreat will begin with a light vegetarian meal followed by an active to restorative yoga practice to shed the tensions of the week and prepare you for sleep. The evening will conclude with traditional retreat or yoga retreat overviews

Saturday

Early Saturday morning practice will kick off with walking and seated meditations, followed by standing poses. Following breakfast, groups will split for specific retreat activities.

Late afternoon will include a whole-group silent nature walk.

Sunday

Your day will begin with walking and gentle yoga. Groups will then meet separately for final two-hour sessions.

Leaders

Mimi Youngman is known and well regarded for her many years as the Religious Education and Family Minister at Spiritus Christi Church in Rochester, NY. She has planned, coordinated and directed many spiritual retreats for people of all ages, creating environments where individuals have the opportunity to focus on the present moment allowing the spirit of the divine to weave her way through each person’s mind, heart, and body. Currently, Mimi independently offers spiritual care and direction for individuals, children, and families.

Mary Aman, M.A., RYT 500, began her yoga practice in 1993, and shortly after became drawn to the clarity and accessibility of the lineage teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar. She has completed both Advanced and Essential Teacher Trainings under the direction of Francois Raoult, internationally renowned yoga teacher and direct student of B.K.S. Iyengar. Mary has also studied with Arthur Kilmurray, Elise Browning Miller (scoliosis), and Judith Hanson Lasater (anatomy and restorative yoga). In January 2009, she spent two weeks in southern India where she visited the Great Temple of Madurai, practiced Kathakali (theater) and bathed an elephant in the backwaters of Kerala. Mary holds degrees from SUNY Geneseo and Columbia University.
